Biografia:
O duo de synth pop britânico The Communards foi fundado em 1985, quando Jimmy Sommerville saiu de sua banda anterior, Bronski Beat, e se uniu ao pianista treinado classicamente Richard Coles.
Apesar de ser primariamente um pianista, Coles toca uma variedade de instrumentos, e havia tocado clarinete no hit do Bronski Beat, "Ain't Necessarily So". Eles eram acompanhados pelo baixista Dave Renwick, também anteriormente do Bronski Beat.
