Biografia:
MacGowan nasceu em Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Inglaterra. Seus pais eram do sudeste da Inglaterra, incluindo Brighton e London.Logo após seu nascimento, sua mãe regressou a Irlanda fazendo assim com que Shane passasse boa parte de sua vida por lá.
Ele foi descoberto em um show do Clash, numa situação, digamos, no mínimo inusitada,momento conhecido como "Cannibalism At Clash Gig", que o tornou conhecido daí em diante.
Trabalhou com Nipple Erectors,The Nips, The Pogues, gravou com Dubliners, Joe Strummer (Clash) , entre outros.
