A cantora e compositora Rickie Lee Jones nasceu dia 8 de Novembro de 1954, em Chicago - Illinois, EUA. Mudou-se para Los Angeles no final dos anos 70, onde cantou e fez monólogos falados com influências beat. Hoje conta trinta anos de carreira e 15 álbuns lançados, sendo o último "Balm in Gilead", de 2009. Sua música tem influências variadas de folk, blues, soul, rock, R&B e jazz.

No início da carreira de Rickie, Tom Waits foi seu namorado.
