Com o fim do Birthday Party em 1983, seu vocalista e letrista, Nick Cave, criou o The Bad Seeds, um supergrupo pós-punk formado por Mick Harvey, ex-Birthday Party, na bateria, Barry Adamson, Magazine, no baixo, e Blixa Bargeld, Einstürzende Neubaten, na guitarra. Com o the Bad Seeds, Cave continuo explorando sua obsessão por temas religiosos, morte, amor, violência, sempre mesclando blues, música gospel, rock e punk em suas composições.
