The Joy Formidable é um trio formado no Norte do País de Gales (2007), formado pela vocalista / guitarrista Ritzy Bryan e o baixista Rhydian Dafydd que tocavam na extinta Sidecar Kisses, antes do término da banda, Justin Stahley se juntou a dupla em 2007 e assim formaram o The Joy Formidable. Seu som pode ser descrito como um "primário grunge rock a lá The Breeders, com toques de Arcade Fire e Yeah Yeah Yeahs".
