The Civil Wars é um duo folk vencedor de dois Grammys composto pelos cantores e compositores John Paul White e Joy Williams, que conquistou sucesso de público e crítica através da beleza de seus arranjos e harmonias.
White e Williams se conheceram em 2008 durante uma "writing camp" em um estúdio em Nashville, Tennessee e começaram a trabalhar juntos naquele ano. Lançaram dois EPs em 2009, Live at Eddie's Attic e Poison & Wine, sendo a música
