Também é conhecido como Birdman J.R., Raw Tune, Weezy F. Baby, Weezy, Dwayne Carter. Seus rappers favoritos são 2Pac, Eminem, Pimp Daddy, U.N.L.V., Big Pun e Jay-Z, além do rapper underground JO$H.
Assinou com a Cash Money Records quando ainda estava no ginásio. Depois de ver Wayne usando as cores das gangues locais, sua mãe melou seu contrato com a gravadora.
