Ao lado de nomes como Kingsmen, The Wailers (não confundir com o grupo de reggae), The Drastics e Paul Revere & the Raiders, os Sonics faziam parte de um movimento que nasceu na costa noroeste dos Estados Unidos de grupos de rock que faziam um rock básico, cru, selvagem, de garagem.
