Segundo a Wikipedia:
Armstrong estudou composição musical, violino e piano na Royal Academy of Music, onde foi premiado com o prêmio Charles Lucas e da Harvey Lohr bolsa de composição. Ele também foi premiado com o Clube FTCL na composição, e venceu o GLAA Jazz Jovem Músico do Ano em 1982. Após a formatura ele se tornou residente estudante para o compositor Londres Escola Dança Contemporânea. Após completar os seus estudos, Armstrong atuava como especialista em Música e Dança do Conselho Regional Strathclyde, em 1984.
