Bill Morrissey

Biografia:

Bill Morrissey (November 25, 1951 – July 23, 2011) was an American folk singer-songwriter from New Hampshire. Many of his songs reflect the harsh realities of life in crumbling New England mill towns.

Hailing from New Hampshire in the northeastern United States, singer-songwriter Bill Morrissey wrote about everyday life on the fringes, both geographical--e.g., fading mill towns, railyards, prisons--and interpersonal--e.g., instant infatuation with an unknown woman at a bar.

[G] John Habor died
In the [Am7] fire up above the [G] IGA
All the other tenants [C] Made it out to [Am7] safety

[G]Back to work at seven [C]
He had some drinks and went to bed
The [G] firemen said they found him dead
[C] Sometime around 9: [Am] 30

The [C] doctor said as the [Am7] ambulance drove away
He [G] died in his sleep, there was [C] no pain
The [Cm] fire chief said, they [Am7] found him in bed
It was the [G] smoke that killed him
Not the [Am] flames

[G] John Habor and I
Worked [Am7] together in the card room
We used to [G] share cigarettes
Near the [C] open window on the [Am7]stair

[G] Stick you head out to the fresh air
Take a [Am7] drag and watch the river
Some[G] times that river moves so slow
You [C] could see it] passing [Am7by

The [C] doctor said as the [Am7] ambulance drove away
He [G] died in his sleep, there was [C] no pain
The [Cm] fire chief said, they [Am7] found him in bed
It was the [G] smoke that killed him
Not the [Am] flames

And [G] it was just two weeks ago
John and [Am7] I were out drinkin’
Both [G] of us sitting flush
With pleanty [C] overtime on our c[Am7] heck

And [G] just before he started slurring
He said I [Am7] don’t know how it happened
But it [G] seems what I want
Has drifted [C] from what I now [Am7] expect

The [C] doctor said as the [Am7] ambulance drove away
He [G] died in his sleep, there was [C] no pain
The [Cm] fire chief said, they [Am7] found him in bed
It was the [G] smoke that killed him
Not the [Am] flames
