Este actor ganador de un Oscar nació en Hot springs, Arkansas, EEUU el 4 de Agosto de 1955.
Ya a los doce años empezó a tocar la bateria en una banda homenaje a la Creedence Clearwater Revival en el colegio. Posteriormente tocó en bamdas locales como Blue & the Blue Velvets, Nothin' Doin', Cottonwood y Hot 'Lanta en colegios e institutos de Texas y Arkansas.
