Slap Her Down Again Paw by Arthur Godfrey

Transcribed by DWdrummer67. This is an old tune my grandfather used to play for
us. It's not played on guitar, but the chord progression sounds correct to me.
Have fun with it.

Tuning: Standard

Come here gol-darned you
Take that (slap) and that, (slap) and that, (slap, slap) that’s right

CH:
C G
Slap her down again, paw… slap her down again (slap)
G C
Make her tell us more, paw… tell us where she's been (slap)
C G
We don't want our neighbors talkin' 'bout our kin
G C G C
Slap her down again, paw… slap her down again (slap)

C G C G
Well paw and ma were so darn sore, they woke me up one night
G C
There was some awful cussin'… and ma said paw was right
C G C G
They was awaitin' sister Bess, who never kept her word
G C
The sun came up as Bess came in, and this is what I heard

C G C G
Now poor old Bess got so darn mad, she ran away one day
G C
To meet that travellin' salesman, with city-skickin' ways
C G C G
We ran and stood beside them though, with shotguns by our sides
G C
Me and Deke and paw and ma, who yelled as they came by

CH: (sing this chorus line for line as different voices with a drawl)

C G
Why don't you slap her down again, paw… slap her down again
G C
Make her tell us more, paw… tell us where she's been
C G
We don't want our neighbors talkin' 'bout our kin
G C G C
Slap her down again, paw… slap her down again

C G C G
Now ma and paw, they planned for Bess to marry Deacon Brown
G C
And not that travellin' salesman, who always came around
C G C G
They made poor Bessie go to church, her face was mighty red
G C
The deacon took one look at her, and this is what he said

CH:
C G
Oh slap her down again, paw… slap her down again
G C
Make her tell us more, paw… tell us where she's been
C G
We don't want our neighbors talkin' 'bout our kin
