Biografia:
Marshall estudou música extensiva na infância, incluindo a Royal Conservatory of Music em Toronto. Enquanto se apresentava no bar Queen Street West na sua adolescência, ela conheceu o guitarrista Jeff Healey, que foi hipnotizado pela voz da garota e a levou em turnê.
Então lhe foi oferecido um contrato com a Columbia Records em 1991, mas decidiu esperar alguns anos antes de lançar seu álbum debut.
Amanda cresceu em Toronto em uma família bi racial, de pai Caucasiano e mãe Caribeana-Canadense.
