[Verse]
A
I cut open my palm and held it out to you.
B C#m A
You did the same with your old army surplus blade.
B A
My blood's never as warm as I'd expect it.
B C#m A
You grabbed my hand adorned in wildflower warpaint.

F#m D A
You made yellows out of Marigolds.
F#m G# A
You made purple out of Camellias.

A
We charged headfirst into the woods with bows and arrows drawn.
B A
Crudely fashioned--sticks and rubber bands and spray paint.
C#m A
We swore ourselves protectors from all the evil in the world.
B A C#m A
You weren't born my brother but you're gonna die that way.

[Chorus]
E C#m B
You ran alone, in the falling snow, barefoot down White's Road.
E C#m B
I watched your bruises grow,Strangely beautiful, Purple and yellow.
A E
You said, "Don't. Don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me home."

[Verse]
A
Your father came in angry like a thunderstorm.
B A E
He tossed you room from room and I watched color draining from your face.
A
Fault lines started forming underneath all of your floorboards.
B A
We sat terrified, waiting on an earthquake.
F#m D A
I watched you put on a brave face.
F#m G#m A
I wanted so badly to be brave.

[Chorus]
E C#m B
You ran alone, in the falling snow, barefoot down White's Road.
E C#m B
I watched your bruises grow,Strangely beautiful, Purple and yellow.
A E
You said, "Don't. Don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me home."

[Bridge]
E
Whoa oh oh
B A E
Whoa oh oh oh
E
Whoa oh oh
B A E
Whoa oh oh oh

A
They kicked you out to teach you what a man is.
B C#m A
I don't think I'll ever know what that means.
E A
They'll put a gun into your hand and call you weak until you're violent.
B
Don't believe it.
C#m A
They're hateful because they're empty.
B G#m A
We got a chance to break the cycle.
C#m G#/B B
We could be the heroes that we always said we'd be.
A E
But don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me...

A E
Don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me Home, home.
A E
Don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me Home, home.
A E B F#m E
Don't take me home. Don't take me home. Don't take me..
