The Irish Brigade

Biografia:

The Irish brigade are an overtly Political ballad group from Northern Ireland. Good Musicians who also play non political material. They can veer from a humorous to poignant view of the situation in their country.

Similar to Shebeen and Seanchai in their outlook, The Irsh Brigade play regularly throughout Ireland, North and South and are very popular in the Celtic side of Glasgow.

There is also an Irish Brigade based out of the Twin Cities, MN in the US. This band has toured for over thirty years.

My little Armalite

[Intro]
G C G
And it's down in the Falls Road, that's where I long to be,
D G
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
C G
A comrade on me left and another on me right
D G
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

G D

[Verse]
G C G
I was stopped by a soldier, he said, You are a swine,
D G
He hit me with his rifle and he kicked me in the groin,
C G D
I begged and I pleaded, all me manners were polite
G D
But all the time I'm thinking of me little Armalite.

[Chorus]
G C G
And it's down in the Bogside, that's where I long to be,
D G
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
C G
A comrade on me left and another on me right
D G
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

[Verse]
G C G
Well this brave RUC man came marching up into our street
D G
Six hundred British soldiers had lined up at his feet
C G D
Come out, ye cowardly Fenians, come out and fight.
G G D
he cried, I'm only joking, when he heard the Armalite.

[Chorus]
G C G
And it's down in Bellaghy, that's where I long to be,
D G
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
C G
A comrade on me left and another on me right
D G
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

G D

[Verse]
G C G
Well, the army came to visit me, 'twas in the early hours,
D G
With Saracens and Salidins and Ferret armoured cars
C G D
They thought they had me cornered, but I gave them all a fright
G D
With the armour piercing bullets of my little Armalite.

G C G
And it's down in the New Lodge, that's where I long to be,
D G
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
C G
A comrade on me left and another on me right
D G
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

G D

[Verse]
G C G
When Pryor came to Belfast, says he, The battle's won,
D G
The generals they had told him “We’ve got them on the run”
C G D
But corporals and privates while on patrol at night,
G D
Say “Remember Narrow Water and the bloody Armalite”

[Chorus]
G C G
And it's down in the Crossmaglen, that's where I long to be,
D G
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
C G
A comrade on me left and another on me right
D G
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.
