Biografia:
En la época de la new wave existió en el Reino Unido un grupo de artistas que crearon, sin perder en sus textos lugar para el comentario social y político, movidos ritmos inspirados por el ska jamaicano, al que impregnaban de pop y punk.
Así, al estilo de los Specials, The Selecter o Madness, se formó en 1979 en la ciudad de Birmingham The Beat, un conjunto compuesto por el cantante y guitarrista Dave Wakeling, el cantante Ranking Roger, el guitarrista Andy Cox
