The Dubliners

Biografia:

Jim McCann when live plays it on the 3rd fret but I prefer this when playing solo.

You can strum it or pick the chords. I prefer a combination of each, with only a gentle strum.

Em7 is usually a run down from C to Am but can be skipped if you prefer. I like to add it in as it's usually
just a single strum into the Am. My Em7 is your index finder, 1st fret on B string and middle finger, 2nd fret
on A string and start the strum from the A string.

At the end of each verse and the chorus I add an F and C chord. These are just a single strum of each chord to
finish the verse/chorus

[Intro]
F C Em7 Am Dm G C F C

[Verse 1]
C Em7 Am F G
As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham jail
F C Em7 Am Dm G
I think about the last few weeks, Oh will they say we failed
C Em7 Am F G
From our school days they have told us we must yearn for liberty
F C Em7 Am G C F C
Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me.

[Chorus]
G F C
Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
F C G
They take me out at dawn and I will die
F C
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger
F C Em7 Am G C F C
There won’t be time to share our love so we must say goodbye.

[Verse 2]
C Em7 Am F G
Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand
F C Em7 Am Dm G
The love I bear for these brave men my love for this brave land
C Em7 Am F G
But when Padraic called me to his side down in the G.P.O.
F C Em7 Am G C F C
I had to leave my own sick bed to him I had to go.

[Chorus]
G F C
Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
F C G
They take me out at dawn and I will die
F C
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger

There won’t be time to share our love so we must say goodbye.

[Verse 3]
C Em7 Am F G
Now as the dawn is breaking my heart is breaking to
F C Em7 Am Dm G
As I walk out on this May morn my thoughts will be of you
C Em7 Am F G
And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know
F C Em7 Am G C F C
I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose
