Teddy Thompson nasceu em Londres - Inglaterra em 1976 e é filho de Linda Thompson com Richard Thompson (Richard & Linda Thompson), e irmão da cantora Kamila Thompson.
O estilo de Teddy é difícil de classificar, pois suas influências são variadas. Cresceu em torno de música folclórica; ele ouviu uma gama musical que cobria Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke e música Gospel.
