Biografia:
Nascido em Portsmouth, Inglaterra, a mãe de Orzabal é inglesa e seu pai é de Paris, mas com ascendência espanhola-basca. Orzabal era chamado no começo de "Raoul" quando tinha até duas semanas de vida, mas este foi depois mudado para Roland.
Orzabal é casado com sua esposa Caroline desde 1982. Eles têm duas crianças, Raoul e Pascal.
No auge da popularidade do Tears for Fears em 1985, Orzabal ganhou considerável atenção da imprensa por uma relação tensa com seu pai e uma charge apareceu no jornal britânico The Sun, falando disso.
