Ao contrário do que o nome indica, a banda Of Montreal não é de Montreal, Canadá. Foi formada na cidade de Athens, Geórgia, Estados Unidos, em 1997. Tem como líder e principal compositor o vocalista e guitarrista Kevin Barnes. Of Montreal é um dos principais grupos que surgiram na onda da gravadora Elephant 6.
