Ele foi o membro fundador do Slowdive, banda frequentemente associada com o gênero musical shoegaze. Depois do fim dos Slowdive, Halstead, juntamente com alguns outros membros do Slowdive (incluindo o antigo amigo e colaborador musical Rachel Goswell) formaram o Mojave 3.
