Desde o fato de escolher um nome que parece o de um departamento público, até a própria música, o Municipal Waste, de Richmond, Virginia abertamente presta homenagem à memória do thrash metal e crossover dos anos 80 - isso vinte anos depois, e distante algumas centenas de milhas do apogeu original do movimento, em Nova Iorque.
