Smith começou a cantar rap com 9 anos de idade, depois que o avô lhe deu seu primeiro equipamento de DJ.
Aos 13 ele estava produzindo as primeiras demos. O primeiro a responder que recebu sua fita demo foi Rick Rubin da Def Jam Record
