Biografia:

Inicialmente, a banda ganhou popularidade na Europa tocando em festivais como Les Inrockuptibles, Wintercase, e South by Southwest.

Formada em 1999 por um grupo de estudantes de jazz da University of North Texas, a formação original inclui Tim Smith (vocal, guitarra, teclado), McKenzie Smith (bateria), Paul Alexander (baixo), Eric Nichelson (guitarra), and Evan Jacobs (teclado).

O primeiro projeto do Midlake - com o nome de The Cornbread All-Stars — consistia nos gêneros funk/jazz fortemente influenciado por Herbie Hancock
