Buffalo, Nova York: 1984 - presente

Mercury Rev é uma banda formada em Nova York no ano de 1984.

O som da banda divide-se em duas fases. Na primeira -a que correspondem os dois primeiros álbuns - "Yerself Is Steam" (1991) e "Boces" (1993), o som da banda era caótico, experimental e psicodélico. Nesta fase o Mercury Rev tornou-se uma banda de culto, com concertos históricos, como no palco secundário de Lollapalooza em 1993, por exemplo, mas com pouco sucesso comercial.
