Marty Robbins

Biografia:

Robbins was born in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona. He was reared in a difficult family situation. His father took odd jobs to support the family of ten children. His father's drinking led to divorce in 1937. Among his warmer memories of his childhood, Robbins recalled having listened to stories of the American West told by his maternal grandfather, Texas Bob Heckle. Robbins left the troubled home at the age of 17 to serve in the United States Navy as an LCT coxswain during World War II.

JIMMY MARTINEZ

D
The story began in Renosa
Ebdim A7
A village in old Mexico

A girl and a Mexican soldier
D
Were sweethearts, a long time ago

They made big plans for a wedding
Ebdim A7
The town of Renosa would go

And there would see Jimmy Martinez
D
Married to Sarah Sero
A7 D
Ohh ohh ohh

D
One day there came a message
Ebdim A7
It said that Jimmy must go

As Jimmy was leavin' Renosa
D
To fight at the Alamo

He never returned to Renosa
Ebdim A7
The story's been told and retold

How Jimmy the Mexican soldier
D
Died at the Alamo
A7 D
Ohh- Ohh ohh

D
Jimmy's last letter to Sarah
Ebdim A7
Began with a message like this

Oh dear one, how sweet is the memory
D
The memory of our parting kiss

I send my heart in this letter
Ebdim A7
I pray to the one up above

Oh Sarah, don't ever forget me
D
Stay just as pure as the dove
A7 D
Ohh ohh ohh

D
I'm like the dove in your window
Ebdim A7
It's chosen just one mate for life

And you are the one I have chosen
D
The one that I want for my wife

He never returned to Renosa
Ebdim A7
The story's been told and retold

How Jimmy the Mexican soldier
D
Died at the Alamo
A7 D
Ohh ohh ohh

D
Sarah refused to believe them
Ebdim A7
She prayed for Jimmy's return

And there ever night in her window
D
A small little candle would burn

Years turned her dark hair to silver
Ebdim A7
She prayed for Jimmy so long

Then one night the village was saddened
D
The light in her window was gone
A7 D
Ohh ohh ohh
