Lonnie Donegan

Frankie And Johnny

por Lonnie Donegan
Lonnie Donegan

Biografia:

On the original recording Lonnie seems to mix up personal pronouns and names a few times
so I've written it
to fit what made most sense to me, some lines aren't entirely accurate but I believe
they work well enough.

Also some lines I couldn't quite figure out for the life of me so I wrote my best approximations.
(Also edited this to fix a few issues)

E
Ah well Frankie and Johnny were sweethearts

Lordy how they could love
A
Ah, they swore to be true to each other
E
Just as true as the skies above
B7 E
He was her man, he wouldn't do her wrong.

E
Well Frankie and Johnny went walking

Johnny had on a new suit
A
Yeah Frankie spent one hundred dollars
E
Just to make her man look cute
B7 E
He was her man, he wouldn't do her wrong.

E
"Well Frankie see, I'm gonna leave you

But I wont be very long.
A
Ah, don't you wait up for me honey,
E
Don't you worry while I'm gone.
B7 E
I'm your man, I wouldn't do you wrong."

E
So Frankie walked down to the Huddy saloon

And she called for a bottle of beer.
A
And she said to the old bar-tender man
E
"Has my loving Johnny man been here?
B7 E
He was my man, but he been doing me wrong, so wrong."

E
"Well see I don't want to cause you no trouble,

Well I don't want to tell you no lies
A
Yeah I see your Johnny
E
Making love with Nelly Bly.
B7 E
He was your man, but he been doing you wrong, so wrong."

E
So Frankie walked over to the transit-door

And there to her great surprise
A
There sat her lover Johnny
E
Making love with Nelly Bly
B7 E
He was her man, but he being her wrong, so wrong.

E
So as Nelly lifted up her kimono dress

Drew a little 44
A
Hey rum-tum-tum, three times she shot him,
E
Right through that hardwood door
B7 E
She shot her man, but he been doing her wrong, so wrong.

E
He said "Roll me over so careful

Hey, roll me over so slow
A
Hey, roll me onto my left side
E
Your bullets they hurt me so
B7 E
I was your man, but I been doing your wrong, so wrong".

E (Spoken fast over E chord)
They sent for Johnny's mother, she come down to the Huddy saloon asking what's the
matter with her boy and
what's he talking about

E
He said "Oh Mrs Johnson

See what your son has got
A
Don't be rockin', a' don't be stompin'
E
But your little Johnny-boy's been shot
B7 E
He was her man, but he been doing her wrong, so wrong"

E
She said "oh Mrs Johnson

Oh forgive me please
A
I know I killed your loving son Johnny
E
But I'm down on a bended knee
B7 E
I shot your man, but he was doing me wrong, so wrong.

E
She said "I forgive you Frankie"

She said "I forgive you not"
A
"Oh you killed my loving son Johnny
E
He was the only boy I got
B7 E
You shot my man, ah he was doing you wrong, so wrong."

E
And last time I see Frankie

She was still in a dungeon cell
A
All day weeping, all day moaning
E
Cos his soul is going down to hell
B7,
She shot her man, but he was doing her wrong, so wrong.

E
She said "Now bring your drum and tired hearses

And a bring up your pony and trap
A
I'm gonna takea' my Johnny to the grave yard
E
I ain'ta gonna bring him back
B7 E
He was my man, but he been doing me wrong, so wrong".

E
Hey the story aint had no moral

Well the story aint got no end
A
Well the story only goes to show show you
E
There's no damn good in men
B7 E
She shot her man, and he was doing her wrong.
