La Havas nasceu em Londres, filha de pai grego e mãe jamaicana. Ela cresceu em Tooting e Streatham, passando a maior parte do tempo com seus avós após o divórcio de seus pais quando criança. La Havas cita o diverso gosto musical de seus pais como a maior influência em sua música.
