note: I prefer to strum along (D DDU-next chord D), but most of the song
has the same picking patern, so shouldn't be too difficult to pick up :)

Capo on 2nd fret

Intro: F C Am G/B

F C Am G/B
He's still driving that 1970 hand-me-down truck
F C Am G/B
And he's still wearing that red and black jersey, waiting for the band to start up
F C
He's still showing up twenty late, finding hearts and rules to break
Am G/B
Why would he wanna change when
F C Am G/B
Every memory still bows to him?

F C
But this ain't high school
Am G/B F
Where all you care about is if the pretty cheerleader thinks you're cool,
C Am G/B
See her Friday, take her out after the football game
F C Am G/B
'Cause it's five years later and you can't get off of the elevator
F C
That's going up, 'cause you're growing up
Am G/B F C Am G/B
And the world gets cruel when you're still living in high school

F C Am G/B
He's still calling that first love, first time, pretty-eyed blonde
F C Am G/B
And she's still letting it ring 'cause his ring isn't what she wants
F C Am G/B
'Cause she traded in prom queen for a big city dream and a slate that's clean, but
F C
Your heart just don't get it and that's why you can't forget it
Am G/B
'Cause you're living like you're seventeen

F C
But this ain't high school
Am G/B F
Where all you care about is if the pretty cheerleader thinks you're cool,
C Am G/B
See her Friday, take her out after the football game
F C Am G/B
'Cause it's five years later and you can't get off of the elevator
F C
That's going up, 'cause you're growing up
Am G/B
And the world gets cruel when

Am G/B C G
You're still living in the hallways, where everybody stopped and stared
Am
And cared and knew your name
G/B C G
'Cause this is the real world that don't know you like that
Am G/B
You can remember but you can't go back

F C
To high school
Am G/B F
Where all you care about is if the pretty cheerleader thinks you're cool,
C Am G/B
See her Friday, take her out after the football game
F C Am G/B
'Cause it's five years later and you can't get off of the elevator
F C
That's going up, 'cause you're growing up
Am G/B F C
And the world gets cruel when you're still living in high school
Am G/B F C Am G/B
When you're still living in, five years later

F C Am G/B
Oh yeah, oh yeaaaeehh
F C Am
He's still calling that first love, first time, and he hates that he said goodbye
G/B F C
And she went on with her life, he's still driving the same old back roads
Am G/B
When did he got so old, where did his life go?
F C Am G/B
Oh, but he knows, oh he knows, yeah he knows
F C Am G/B
That this ain’t high school, oh no
F C Am G/B F C Am G/B
He's still driving that 1970 hand-me-down truck and he’s stuck in high school
F
But this ain’t high school
