Josué cresceu em Westlake Village, Califórnia, o mais novo dos dois filhos. Sua mãe, a atriz Gloria Castillo, foi de mexicano-americano ascendência indiana. Aos 12 anos ele começou a tocar piano e, posteriormente, começou a escrever músicas.
