Godas by Jonathan Kelly

Tuning: EADGBE

This uses chord names as they would be without a capo, but it’s capo second fret on the
LP/CD.

You should be able to squeeze a finger on to the G string to make up the F#sus4 without
the fingers already in place that make up the F#m. Remember to damp the chords using the
to get the right effect.

You'll need a time machine to get the phasing and echo effects...

(spoken)

Seven horses gallop on a desert waste,
carry seven bandits making off in haste
From the poor folks in the village left in fear and dread
All their valuables gone and their menfolk dead

All at once they come upon a water hole
Stop to rest the horses and divide the gold

...Fade in Em

Suddenly there’s music coming across the dunes

Bm

It’s a man with a big smile and he’s singing a tune

(Chorus)

Bm

My name is Godas and I play for free, all I ask you friends is to believe in me

Em F#m

There is much that’s mystery

G Dmaj7

Come gather round me people now, gather round me people now

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people now

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people

G

Gather round me people, gather round me people now

F#m F#sus4(no chord) Bm

Gonna open up your eyes, so you can see

(spoken)

But the bandits say

G E
G E

Hold on Godas, what you gonna show us? Could be the last thing you’ll ever do.

G E

Hold on Godas what you gonna show us?

G (no chord)
Bm

Think (?) it’s sad it’s gonna bury you ooh ooh ooh ooh

Bm

You don’t scare me at all, says Godas with a grin

Bm

Now if you just follow me down to the water we can all begin

Em

You men don’t look that er very smart to me

Bm

So I presume you’ve never ever seen a dancing tree?

Bm

Now they’re all gathered round the tree down by the pool

Bm

Some of the bandits they’re calling Godas a fool

Em

But he just takes out his silver flute and begins to play

Bm

Sure enough that tall tree starts to sway

(Chorus)

Bm

My name is Godas and I play for free, all I ask you friends is to believe in me

Em F#m

There is much that is a mystery

G Dmaj7

Come gather round me people now, gather round me people now

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people now

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people

G

Gather round me people, gather round me people now

F#m F#sus4(no chord)Bm

Gonna open up your eyes, so you can see

(but the bandits say)

G E

Hold on Godas sure want you to know this

G E

We really like the way you play and sing

G E

But hold on Godas the rest of it is pocus

G (no chord)Bm

We know you do it with invisible strings hmm mm mm

(instrumental break)

Bm

Godas turns away and says ‘I’ve done the best I could.’

Bm

But the bandits they come forward they’re looking for his blood

Em

You can imagine their extreme surprise

Bm

When Godas vanishes before their very eyes

Bm

If you’re ever wandering out in the desert all alone

Bm

Come across seven figures made out of stone

Em

Want you to listen very closely to the wind

Bm

Could be you’ll hear our old friend sing

(Final chorus)

Bm

My name is Godas and I play for free, all I ask you friends is to believe in me

Em F#m G

G F#m

Why can’t you learn to live in harmony?

G Dmaj7

Now gather round me people now, gather round me people now

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people, gather round me people

G Dmaj7

Gather round me people now, gather round me people now,

G

Gather round me people now

Gonna open up your eyes...

(flute break G & F#m)

F#m F#sus4

Gonna open up your eyes so you... can... see......
