Jim Stafford

The Scotsman

Biografia:

America’s Favorite Jim Stafford Songs
In 1974, Jim wrote and recorded his first chart making song, “The Swamp Witch”, produced by his boyhood friend Kent LaVoie, (known as Lobo). He followed with a gold single, “Spiders and Snakes”, which stayed on the American pop charts for 26 weeks. The hits just kept coming and included “My Girl Bill”, “Wildwood Weed”, and the wonderfully satirical “Cow Patti”, written for the Clint Eastwood movie, Any Which Way You Can, in which Jim appeared.

The Scotsman- Byran Bowers

E A B7 E
Well a Scotsman clad in kilt left the bar one evening fair
A E B7
And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share
A E B7
He fumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet
E B7 A B7 E
And he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street

A E B7
Ring ding diddlediddle ay de o, ring di diddly ay o
E B7 A B7 E
And he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street

E A B7 E
About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by
A E B7
One said to the other with a twinkle in her eye
A
See yon sleeping Scotsman
E B7
So strong and handsome built
E A B7 E
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt

A E B7
Ring ding diddlediddle ay de o, ring di diddly ay o
E A B7 E
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt

E A
They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman
B7 E
Quiet as could be
A E B7
And lifted up his Kilt an inch so they could see
A E B7
And there behold for them to view beneath his Scottish skirt
E A B7 E
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth

A E B7
Ring ding diddlediddle ay de o, ring di diddly ay o
E A B7 E
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth

E A
They marveled for a moment
B7 E
Then one said we must be gone
A E B7
Let's leave a present for our friend before we move along
A E B7
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow
E A B7 E
Around the bonnie star the Scotsman's kilt did lift and show

A E B7
Ring ding diddlediddle ay de o, ring di diddly ay o
E A B7 E
Around the bonnie star the Scotsman's kilt did lift and show

E A
Now the Scotsman woke to natures call
B7 E
And stumbled toward a tree
A
Behind the bush he lifts his kilt
E B7
And gawks at what he sees
A
And in a startled voice he says
E B7
To what's before his eyes
E A B7 E
Ach, lad I don't no where ya've been but I see ya won first prize
