O nome da Alt-J tem uma pequena explicação. Pronunciado como “alt-jay”, o símbolo do delta é criado quando você aperta e segura a tecla alt e aperta “J” em seguida no teclado de um computador Mac. O símbolo tem um significado profundo para a banda, como o guitarrista/baixista Gwil Sainsbury explica, “em equações matemáticas, ele é usado para representar mudanças”, e o relativamente novo nome da banda veio num ponto decisivo de suas vidas.
