Suas músicas passam perto às vezes do progressivo, e é claro, como bom inglês, passa também pela típica melancolia do rock Britânico, mas tudo com muita classe e originalidade.
Ed Harcourt também é confesso em suas influências musicais: Chet Baker, Jay Hawkins, Perry Farrell, the Beasties, Gravediggaz, e At the Drive In.
É também um fantástico aluno de Tom Waits.
