Dave Gunning

Prince Of Pictou

por Dave Gunning
Dave Gunning

Biografia:

“There's a song in there somewhere," sings Dave Gunning optimistically on his seventh album We're All Leaving, but the Pictou County, Nova Scotia performer is being far too modest.

Scoring three 2010 East Coast Music Award Nominations for Songwriter, Male Solo Recording and FACTOR Recording of the Year, and recently named as a Finalist in the Great American Song Contest and International Songwriting Competition for his song, Before The Morning Sun (co-written by James Keelaghan), Gunning is on the move.

Dave Gunning - Prince Of Pictou

INTRO: Em D C Em D C G Am C D

G C D
By the lights of Pictou Harbour
G C D
A lonely prince stands on the shore
G C D
Left behind across the ocean
G C D
To hide the ways of George the IV

G C D
A lantern flickers in the hallway
G C D
A clock burns time from afar
G C D
Dressed to kill but dying fast inside
G C D
He makes his way down to the bar

G C D
He tells the story of his old life
G C D
To a wall of disbelief
G C D
He buys a drink for the girls of Creighton Street
G C
And spends the fortune of a King

CHORUS:
Em C D
There are diamonds buried in these waters
G C D
There is gold hidden in the hills
Em C D
There are secrets that lie beneath the surface
Bm Am D9 Em
Of an unwelcome son, a forgotten Prince

INSTRUMENTAL: Em D C D ? D

G C D
He sits in darkness at the tavern
G C
And counts the years away from home
D Bm C D
He lifts his glass, makes a toast from his worn out barroom chair
G C D
"Here's to life upon the throne"

BRIDGE:
G
Here's a toast to my father
Am G
I wonder, does he ever drink to me?
Bb Am
I wonder, does he ever think of me?

INSTRUMENTAL:

D G C D
The cold of January took him
G C D
At the age of thirty-three
Bm C D
They carried him up to the top of Laurel Hill
G C D
To let him rest among the trees

G C D
And all the politicians gathered
G C
To pay the mystery man his due
D G C D
And although they'd never said "Hello", they've come to say goodbye
G C D
Just in case the story's true

CHORUS:
Em C D
There are diamonds buried in these waters
G C D
There is gold hidden in the hills
Em C D
There are secrets that lie beneath the surface
Bm Am D9 Em
Of an unwelcome son, a forgotten Prince
