Close Your Eyes começou quando o vocalista Shane Raymond conheceu o guitarrista Brett Callaway no refeitório da faculdade em que estudavam. Brett estava usando uma camisa do Dillinger Escape Plan e Shane estava vestindo uma do As I Lay Dying, e comentaram sobre as respectivas camisas. Eles começaram a conversar sobre música e perceberam que tínham muitos interesses em comum.
