David Mallett

Coming Apart At The Seams

by David Mallett
David Mallett

Biografía:

David Mallett plays folk songs founded on his experiences of New England but tackling current global issues. The song structures are simple without being trite and direct without being rude. He is able to evoke beauty in a way which is violently moving.

He performed first age 10 as a child duo with his brother. He flirted with Nashville in the 1970's but the glitzy country scene didn't fit his approach or priorities. More recently he has developed a raw edge which gives his songs even more impact.

[Verse 1]
F C
Ah Henry, you sure bought that whole James Dean thing,
G C
Right down to the end.
F C
Drinkin' beers, bangin' gears,
G
On the outside lookin' in.
F C
Such a desperate time on a small town stage,
G C
With no prize comin' for the comin' of age.
Am Em F C
So you burn with a passion and you burn with the rage,
G C
'Till the fire done pulled you in.

[Verse 2]
F C
And me, I was just a green eyed kid,
G C
You were two years older than me.
F C
But as I look back on the those days in the dust,
G
You were what we all wanted to be.
F C
You were quick with a smile, good with a wheel,
G C
Cool with the women, and you made us feel.
Am Em F C
Like we were all gonna rise in a flash of steel,
G C
In some teenage fantasy.

[Chorus]
F C
So lookout you home town heros,
G C
And lookout you home comin' queens.
Am Em F C
'Cause there's a bad kid comin' to the party tonight,
G C
And he's comin' apart at the seams.

[Bridge]
Am F
Now your old man still stares at the street sometimes,
G C
With a lost, look in his eyes.
Am F
And your sad mama waits in the heat of the night,
C G
And she thinks about her baby and cries.

[Verse 3]
F C
Now all the night crews all settle down,
G C
Theres been eighteen years, but it's the same old town.
Am Em F C
And the sun comes up and the rain comes down,
G C
On that lonely side, way of life.

[Chorus]
F C
So lookout you home town heros,
G C
And lookout you home comin' queens.
Am Em F C
'Cause there's a bad kid comin' to the party tonight,
G C
And he's comin' apart at the seams.
