The Format fue un grupo de indie formado por Nate Ruess y Sam Means, an Arizona. Se concedieron un descanso en Febrero de 2008. Su estilo puede ser considerado como una mezcla de indie, alternativo, algo de punk, y música folk con elementos 60's y 70's de la música pop.Su nombre "The Format" se refiere a las inclinaciones que tiene la industria musical en cuanto al "formato" de los hits musicales.
