Mastodon es un grupo de progressive sludge metal, de Atlanta, Georgia (Estados Unidos).
El estilo musical de Mastodon incluye riffs de guitarra pesados,en algunos casos muy técnicos y complejos, ritmos de batería influenciados por el jazz, compases sueltos y largos interludios melódicos instrumentales inspirados en la profunda admiración del grupo por el rock y el metal progresivo.
Mastodon se fundó en el año 1999, cuando Brann Dailor y Bill Kelliher
