La banda fue creada en el año 2011,después de la disolución del grupo de synthpop llamados Silly Kissers
De los cuales Carriere,Penny y Gillies eran miembros.TOPS proviene de la disquera Arbutus Records con
Ellos lanzaron su álbum debut Tender Opposites el día 28 de febrero del 2012.Las críticas generalmente
Fueron positivas.El segundo álbum del grupo fue Picture You Staring fue lanzado en el año 2014 en la
Disquera Arbutus Records.las ilustracion del álbum Fueron creada por la artista Jessica Dean Harrison.
