One of the Alarms finest, (I think it sounds like the Who towards the end). This, I think,
is a fair effort at this track, but I'd be willing to bet that this isn't 100% correct.
I have woked this out in standard tuning but, like a lot of Alarm songs, it would have been played
a semi tone down. Tune down and transpose to get open chords
If anyone has the time or the inclination to improve it for me I would be very greatful
There are several versions of this, this one is taken from 'in the poppy fields' (not the collected works)

Intro: C# G# F# C# C# F# C#, C# G# F# C# C# F# C#

Verse 1:
G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
Down in the gutter of my life story, I’m lying in a bed with a dream playing in my head
G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
Spitting blood into a test tube, I used to be half a man, I used to be useful
F# C# F# C#
I walk with the demons and the devils, shadow boxing the ghosts of my reflection in windows
D#m G# D#m G#
All the pigeons and the statues are staring down at me
F# C# F# C# G#
At the drunk and the disorderly
F# C# F# C# G#
At the drunk and the disorderly

Intro (repeated): C# G# F# C# C# F# C#, C# G# F# C# C# F# C#

Verse 2:
G# G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
Paper bag bottles in the wardrobe, stealing from the shops where I once bought my hope
G# G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
I'm all wrapped up in a plastic bag I'm lying still while the human race step over the rags
F# C# F# C#
I’ll name the names in my diatribe, posthumously posted on my website
D#m G# D#m G#
Milkmen and taxi drivers, the last men on the street
F# C# F# C# G#
And the drunk and the disorderly

Chorus:
C# G# Bbm F#
Who am I, who are you, who is the god that we bow down to
C# G# Bbm F# C# G# F# C# C# F# C# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
Who are we, who are they, who is the master, who is the slave

Verse 3:
G# G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
I stepped out of the present tense, I cut the umbilical chord of reality
G# C# G# F# C# C# F# C#
I don’t know where this really is or where all this illusion really begins
F# C# F# C#
I keep an old business card inside my shoes, an anonymous connection to the life I once used
D#m G# D#m G#
Curtains moving in the council houses on the grey estates
F# C# F# C# G#
Of the drunk and the disorderly

Chorus:
C# G# Bbm F#
Who am I, who are you, who is the god that we bow down to
C# G# Bbm F# G#
Who are we, who are they, who is the master, who is the slave

Verse 4:
G# NC F# C#
I am powerless, there is a greater power, as I understand it, within myself
G# F# C# G# F# C# G# F# C# G# F# C#
I’m ready for changing, I’m ready to be changed, hear my voice, call and be called
F# C# G# F# C# F# C# G# F# C#
I know where the bodies have been buried, I know things only the dead should know
D#m G# D#m G#
All above me, all around me, within and without
F# C# F# C# G#
Are the drunk and the disorderly
F# C# F# C# G#
Are the drunk and the disorderly

Ending:
C# F# D#m
The drunk and the disorderly
C# F# D#m
The drunk and the disorderly, hear my voice
C# F# D#m
The drunk and the disorderly
C# F# D#m
The drunk and the disorderly, call and be called
C# F# D#m
The drunk and the disorderly
C# F# D#m C# F# C# G# F# C#
The drunk and the disorderly
