Ted Hawkins nació en Biloxi, Mississippi, el 28 de octubre de 1936 y murió el 1 de enero de 1995, con 58 años. En su hogar de adopción, Venice Beach, California, no pasó de ser un anónimo músico callejero; fue en Europa donde pequeñas audiencias supieron comprenderle mejor.
Hawkins tuvo una infancia conflictiva y difícil. A los doce años fue recluído en un reformatorio por robar una chaqueta de cuero y sus visitas a la prisión se prolongaron hasta los 19.

Am not exactly 100% positive about the lyrics,
and pretty sure you don't HAVE to wear a glove while playing this,
but if you want to keep it original, go for it, just use barre chords
and a light grey woollen glove for a fuzzy tone,
or leather glove for that harder edge.
Personally, I prefer a light tan suede glove.
