[Intro]

C F C F

[Verse]

C
Standin' in the phone booth and I'm
C
Not sure what time it is but I
G Am G
Don't think it really matters
C
It's been a while since a talked to him
C G
I hold my breath as the telephone starts to ring
F C G
Will he say; "How are 'ya? How 'ya been?"
F C Em/B Am
And when I ask if we can get together . . .
G F
what will he say?
C F
What will he say?

[Chorus]

G F C
And maybe the next time
G F C
Love will make it's way through
G F C Em/B Am
And maybe the next time
G F
Old hearts will turn new

[Verse]

C F
Finally a familiar hello
C G
My hand tightens around the telephone
C
"It's been a while my little darlin'
C
I hope you're doin' well
G
I hope we're still friends."
F C
We talked for a while 'till he said;
G
"I gotta go"
F C Em/B Am
There's someone waitin' for me
G F
I had to let you know."

[Chorus]

G F C
And maybe the next time
G F C
Love will make it's way through
G F C Em/B Am
And maybe the next time
G F G
Old hearts will turn new

[Bridge]

Am C
No-one counts the reasons
F C
Why things change just like the seasons
G C G
Change inside. (It's living time.)
Am C
Maybe on the horizon
F C
There'll be someone to confide in
G
Someone new
F
But why can't I be with you?

[Verse]

C
There's something weighing heavy in my soul
G
The world seems frozen, seems so cold
C
There'll be no celebration of love tonight
G
This party ended a long time ago
F C G
Guess I'll pick up all the broken pieces
F C Em/B Am
And glue them back together;
G
Back on the shelf
F
Oh - ahhh . .

[Chorus]

G F C
And maybe the next time
G F C
Love will make it's way through
G F C Em/B Am
And maybe the next time
G F
Old hearts will turn new

[Chorus]

G F C
And maybe the next time
G F C
Love will make it's way through
G F C Em/B Am
And maybe the next time
G F
Old hearts will turn new

[Outro]
C
Maybe the next time . .
F
Maybe the next time . .
C
Maybe the next time . .
F
Maybe the next time . .
C
Maybe... the next time
