[Intro]
D

[Chorus]
G
When you're young you think you know it all
D
Yeah, you're hot-rod cocky
G
And you stand there like a man and say
D
They ain't nothin' strong enough to stop me
Bm A
Until some beautiful girl
G
Bare-legged and sandaled
Bm A G
Loosens a grip on everything you had handled

[Verse]
D
Well, you don't know how to drive

'Til you get behind the wheel
Bm
And you don't know how to play

Until you finally take the field
G
Well you don't know how it'll go
D
Where it'll end, until you cut the deal
D
And you don't know what really matters

Until you risk it all
Bm
Ain't nothing that's worth winnin'

If losin's not involved
G
And if you're afraid to give away your heart
A
And face what love brings
D A
Man, you don't know a thing

[Verse]
G
You got your life all planned out
D
Sure looks good on paper
G
'Til your American dream smacks up against
D
The risin' cost of labor
Bm A
'Cause they shipped off every job
G
In your hometown
Bm A
And you learn how to survive
G
When it all goes south

[Verse]
D
Well, you don't know how to drive

'Til you get behind the wheel
Bm
And you don't know how to play

'Til you finally take the field
G
Well you don't know how it'll go
D
Where it'll end, until you cut the deal
D
And you don't know what really matters

Until you risk it all
Bm
Ain't nothing that's worth winnin'

If losin's not involved
G
And if you're afraid to give away your heart
A
And face what love brings
D Bm G A
Man, you don't know a thing

[Chorus]
D
When you're on your knees all night

With a child with a ragin' fever
Em7
And you realize this might be

The last time you see her
Bm A
Life holds on, and faith holds on
G
And love holds that little tiny hand

[Outro]
D
Well, you don't know how to drive

'Til you get behind the wheel
Bm
And you don't know how to pray

Until you're scared of what you feel
G
And if you're afraid to give away your heart
A
And face what life brings
D
Man, you don't know a thing
Bm
You don't know a thing
G
Hey, you don't know a thing
D
Yeah
