Biografía:
El reinado de los grandes éxitos de Ruth Brown de 1949 a finales de los 50 ayudó tremendamente a la discográfica de Nueva York a establecer su predominancia en el campo del Rhythm & Blues. Posteriormente, fue olvidada por la industria -tuvo que trabajar durante un tiempo como asistenta del hogar- aunque volvió a la cima, dado su estatus de pionera del R&B durante la posguerra y reconocida a nivel mundial.
Ruth Weston se inspiró inicialmente en las cantantes de jazz Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday y Dinah Washington.
