Robert Sarazin Blake

On The Coast

by Robert Sarazin Blake
Robert Sarazin Blake

Biografía:

Blake has carved out a nitch and an audience all his own full of punks, hippies, college students, country music fans, tree sitters, high schools and their parents. Your bound to hear some Dylan, some Billy Bragg, some John Darinelle, and something Irish, but mostly your going to hear Robert Blake.

Blake's musical and spiritual roots are in being a folksinger. He unashamedly draws from folk sources and at the same time brings a careful modern appraisal to the process.

Verse:
C F
The weather aint so good on the coast
C F C
The beer Im drinkin wont last forever
F Am G
The night is still young, Ive got hours and hours until dawn

[the rest of the verses follow the above pattern]

Theres some weather common in
All the folks drink their tonic and gin
Remember days when it werent so rainy, cold and hard

The rain stops for a while
The children play for a while
Doesnt matter what the squal, when you know the brakes keep on comin

Chorus:
C G C
They all sang hallelujah, hallelujah
F
When Sunday came
C G C
They all sang hallelujah, hallelujah
F
When Sunday came

The mountain to the east
And the bay’s to the west
The ocean’s somewhere out there beyond that narrow strip of land

Not a fishing town anymore
Not many fishing boats go out anymore
There aren’t so many fish in the stores brought from far away places

People mined here before
Sold insurance here before
Sold anything anyone would buy here before, figuring that people knew what they were in for

And theyd all sing hallelujah, hallelujah
When Sunday came
And they all sang hallelujah, hallelujah
When Sunday came

Instrumental break:
C F C F C F Am G

The mill pumps on like before
The logs roll from the mountain to the shore
Cut in pieces, put in boats, sent off to build far away homes

When the loggers and fishermen came
Met the natives and botched up their names
Gave em their only book, the Bible, and taught them to pray

And they soon sang hallelujah, hallelujah
When Sunday came
And they soon sang hallelujah, hallelujah
When Sunday came

Now in the fall the students come
Feel like theyre the first ones
To find a town so empty sad beautiful, and better than where they came from

But theres a mall to be blown up
A downtown to be built up
And all of the businesses need to be owned by those who work there

Then all sing hallelujah, hallelujah
When every day comes
And all sing hallelujah, hallelujah
When Sunday comes
