Laura Douglas, conocida en el ámbito musical como Laura Mvula, es una cantante y compositora, nacida en Inglaterra el 23 de Abril de 1987, proveniente de los suburbios de Kings Heat y Selly Park en Birmingham, Inglaterra.
Estudió y se graduó de la licenciatura en composición por el Birmingham Conservatoire. Mientras trabajaba en una escuela secundaria, como recepcionista, Laura comenzó a escribir sus canciones desde una computadora portátil
