Am7/D
I was grinding through my day gig

Stackin' cutouts at the Strand*

When in walks Franny from NYU

We were quite an item back then

Dm7/G
We talked about her films and shows and Cds

And I don't know what else*

Am7/D
She said, yeah, Hollywood's been good to me

But tell me - how about yourself

Cmaj7 F13
I'm still working on that novel

Ebmaj7/F F13
But I'm just about to quit

D Db7
'Cause I'm worrying about the future now

B7 Bbmaj7
Or maybe this is it

Fmaj7 B7+9 Bbmaj7 E13-9
It's not all that I thought it would be

Bb/C B7+9 Gsus4/Bb Bbmaj13
What a shame a bout me

Am7/D
She said, talk to me, do you ever see

Anybody else from our old crew*

Bobby Dakine won the Bunsen Prize

Now he's coming out with something new

Dm7/G
Alan owns a chain of Steamer Heavens

And Barry is the software king*

Am7/D
And somebody told me in the early 80's

You were gonna be the Next Big Thing

Cmaj7 F13
Well now that was just a rumour

Ebmaj7/F F13
But I guess I'm doin' fine

D Db7
Three weeks out of the rehab

B7 Bbmaj7
Living one day at a time

Fmaj7 B7+9 Bbmaj7 E13-9
Sneaking up on the new century

Bb/C B7+9 Gsus4/Bb Bbmaj13
What a shame a bout me

Am7/D Gm7/C
What a shame about me

Bbm7/Eb Fmaj9
I'm thinking of a major Jane Street sunrise

Bb13 Csus4/Eb Ebm7/Ab
And the goddess on the fire escape was you

Am7/D
We both ran out of small talk

The connection seemed to go dead*

I was about to say, hey, have a nice life

When she touched my hand and said:

Dm7/G
You know I just had this great idea

This could be very cool*

Why don't we grab a cab to my hotel

Am7/D
And make believe we're back at our old school

Cmaj7 F13
I said babe you look de licious

Ebmaj7/F F13
And you're standing very close

D Db7
But like this is Lower Broadway

B7 Bbmaj7
And you're talking to a ghost

Fmaj7 B7+9 Bbmaj7 E13-9
Take a good look it's easy to see

Bbmaj7 Ebmaj9 E7 F
