Slaid Cleaves - Flowered Dresses

## NOTE: ~ = Bass Walk-Down from G to C ##

CAPO: 2nd Fret

INTRO: G C Em D

G C
She was leaning long legged 'neath the bottle cap sign
Em D
Of the country store, with a coke and a smile
G C
The coolest place to linger on an Arkansas day
Em D
When she saw him passing by

G C
He said, "I'll take you back to Texas, and my name is Ray"
Em D
"Where the stars are bigger than the Hit Parade"
G C
And she stopped dreaming her dream and started dreaming his
Em D
Traded in her childhood

CHORUS:
C D G
She wore flowered dresses for him
C D G
Rolled her hair and scrubbed her freckled skin
C D
On the chance that they were going out tonight
G ~ C
Catch a show, maybe grab a bite
D
And she looked real nice
G
She looked real nice

C
Sometimes I think about my daddy and his Old Spice grin
Em D
Clean, pressed shirt and a farmer's tan
G C
She never asked him questions and he never told her lies
Em D
But I heard my mama cry some

G C
And I was sitting in the hallway on the night he left
Em D
Hugging my knees, holding my breath
G C
I was never sure why, but he was damn sure gone
Em D
Thought it was maybe my fault

CHORUS:
C D G
She wore flowered dresses for him
C D G
Rolled her hair and scrubbed her freckled skin
C D
On the chance that they were going out tonight
G ~ C
Catch a show, maybe grab a bite
D
And she looked real nice
G
She looked real nice

INSTRUMENTAL: G C Em D G C Em D (2x)

G C
Now the evening is just starting to chill a bit
Em D
The fireflies over the field and it
G C
Brings to mind the glider where she used to sit
Em D
Count the headlights on the highway

G C
And I think of where you're going, where you are tonight
Em D
What you must have seen since I last saw those eyes
G C
I know I can't win if I do not play
Em D
This whole thing scares me

CHORUS:
C D G
She wore flowered dresses for him
C D G
Rolled her hair and scrubbed her freckled skin
C D
On the chance that they were going out tonight
G ~ C
Catch a show, maybe grab a bite
D
And she looked real nice
G
She looked real nice
C D
And she looked real nice
G C D G
She looked real nice
