Fundado por el ex-vocalista/guitarrista de Ensiferum, Jari Mäenpää, Wintersun es una banda de metal de Finlandia con un repertorio de influencias sonoras desde power metal, folk metal, viking metal o black metal hasta progressive metal.Pero su estilo mas destacado hasta la fecha es el Death Metal Melódico
El primer disco de Wintersun, Wintersun fue programado para ser grabado a principios de 2004, lo que coincidía con el tour Europeo de Ensiferum.
